Senior midfielder Juliana Altman took her first SAA Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week award of the season, and the second of her career, Monday from the league office. She earned the honor through her performance in the team's 14-13 victory over Hendrix in Conway, Arkansas, on Saturday, a win that clinched a spot in the SAA playoffs for the Stormy Petrels.
Altman scored 8 goals and tallied an assist over two games on the week en route to a 1-1 record. In the Hendrix game, she scored 5 goals while grabbing 4 draw controls and causing 2 turnovers. In addition, she scored 3 goals in a midweek loss at Emmanuel. Altman now has 28 goals and 6 assists on the season, and is in the top 10 in the league in free position goals (7) and caused turnovers (20).
"Jules is a phenomenal asset to our team as a field player and leader," said Oglethorpe head coach Shawna Block. "She's been key in bringing the team together and keeping them motivated throughout each game. I'm thrilled for her that she has received this honor."
Altman becomes the second member of the team to earn an SAA weekly honor this season after freshman defender Dreshona Mapps-Whitmore won an SAA Defensive Player of the Week award back in February.
Altman and the rest of the Petrels will now get set to travel to Tennessee to take on Sewanee Wednesday afternoon at 7 p.m. Eastern. After that, the squad will return home to face off against Berry Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The career of Altman and defender Michelle Shramek will be honored as part of Senior Day festivities before that game.
