Women's Lacrosse Hires Brittney Hughes as Assistant Coach

The Oglethorpe women's lacrosse team has hired Brittney Hughes to serve as assistant coach for Head Coach Shawna Block, effective immediately. She will assist with all aspects of the program, and has been involved with all aspects of the game over the past decade, including playing, coaching and officiating.

"We are very excited to have Brittney join our coaching staff," said Block. "She brings with her an incredible wealth of lacrosse knowledge and enthusiasm that will be paramount in continuing to grow the women's program at OU."

Hughes has coached club teams at Hotlanta Lacrosse for the past six years, as well as running all aspects of the Kennesaw State women's lacrosse club team from 2011 through 2016, serving as the head coach and team president. She has also served as the vice president of the Southeastern Women's Lacrosse League, an organization that includes 17 collegiate club teams, for the past three years. Hughes has also worked as a high school official for the past three years and is a Level 1 instructor in the U.S. Lacrosse Coaching Development Program.

"I would like to thank AD Hall and Coach Block for the opportunity to work with the lacrosse program at Oglethorpe," said Hughes. "I'm excited to be part of the continuing growth and development of the Stormy Petrels women's lacrosse team!"

Hughes graduated from Kennesaw State with a bachelor's degree in public relations and a minor in coaching.
