The Oglethorpe women's soccer team earned a decisive victory over Huntingdon Wednesday, defeating the home-standing Hawks, 3-0, behind two goals by forward Clara St. Urbain.
Oglethorpe got off to an excellent start when St. Urbain scored an unassisted goal in the 29th minute. She continued in the 38th minute when Oglethopre won a penalty kick. St. Urbain calmly knocked the ball home to give the Lady Petrels a huge two-goal lead, made even larger by the fact that Huntingdon had a player red-carded for the foul leading to the penalty kick.
Oglethorpe would basically cruise home from there, scoring the game-icing goal in the 54th minute. Forward Jessie Gregerson knocked home a pass from St. Urbain for the Lady Petrels' third goal of the game.
St. Urbain had a huge game, finishing the game with five points on two goals and one assist. She took five shots and put three of them on target. Gregerson took four shots and put three of them on target. Oglethorpe outshot Huntingdon 20-4 on the afternoon, 10-2 on target. The Lady Petrels also took five corner kicks to the Hawks' one.
The win improves the Lady Petrels to 3-5 on the season. The team will next be in action on Friday, when they will take on SAA foe Hendrix at 2 p.m.
