The Oglethorpe women's soccer team picked up their first SAA win with a victory over Hendrix Friday afternoon, 3-1.
The Lady Petrels couldn't have gotten off to a better start, scoring three goals in the first half. The first came in the 20th minute, when Laura Betancourt converted a long ball into the box from Katie Geiger. They expanded their lead in the 28th minute, Emily Silva turning in an assist from Clara St. Urbain. Then, they took a huge 3-0 lead in the 38th minute when Kendall Burke scored off a giveaway from Hendrix. The Lady Petrels would take the three-goal lead into halftime. Though Hendrix got a goal back midway through the second half, the Lady Petrels were never seriously threatened.
Betancourt, Silva and Burke all had a goal apiece, and Geiger and St. Urbain tallied an assist apiece. Oglethorpe outshot Hendrix 16-13 for the game, 9-4 on goal.
The win improves the Lady Petrels to 4-5 on the season, 1-1 in SAA play. They will next be in action Sunday at noon, when they will host Rhodes. Senior day festivities will take place before the game.
