Women's Soccer Loses at Berry, 5-0
The Oglethorpe women's soccer team lost its regular-season finale on Saturday to Berry in Mount Berry, Ga., 5-0. The loss means they finish the regular season 4-10, 1-6 in SAA play.
The Lady Petrels fell behind very early and were never able to recover. Berry scored goals in the ninth and 38th minutes to take a 2-0 lead into halftime, then put the game away very early in the second half. They scored in the 47th minute, then added goals in the 66th and 85th minutes for good measure.
Oglethorpe was outshot by the Vikings by a whopping 31-2, and Berry put 22 shots on goal. Oglethorpe goalkeeper Bailey Evans put forth a valiant effort against the onslaught, totaling 17 saves on the day in the 5-0 defeat.
The Vikings took nine corner kicks to Oglethorpe's two.
The loss means that the Lady Petrels will take the No. 7 seed into the SAA Tournament next weekend. The tournament will take place in Danville, Ky., on the campus of Centre College. Oglethorpe will take on the No. 2 seed Birmingham Southern in the quarterfinal round of the tournament Friday evening at 5 p.m.
