The Oglethorpe women's soccer team dropped their final game of the regular season on Friday evening in Mount Berry, Georgia, falling to homestanding Berry 4-0. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 4-11-1 overall and 1-5-1 in SAA play to finish the regular campaign.
The Petrels gave up a pair of goals in the opening half of play. The homestanding Vikings tallied in the 23rd and 31st minutes to take a 2-goal lead into the halftime break. The visitors still had a chance, down by just two at halftime, but Berry finished off the game fairly early in the second half. They recorded goals in the 59th and 67th minutes, and cruised to the 4-0 victory after that.
Berry outshot Oglethorpe 26-7 overall over the course of the game, including a 16-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Vikings took 10 corner kicks to Oglethorpe's one.
Despite giving up four goals, Oglethorpe sophomore goalkeeper Sidney Stone had a good game as she recorded 12 saves with her goal under siege for the majority of the game.
The Petrels will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 27, when they'll travel for their SAA first round matchup. The team currently holds the No. 6 seed, but that could change depending upon the outcome of tomorrow's games in the league.
