Sophomore midfielder Maddie Cornell of the Oglethorpe women's soccer team received her first career All-SAA recognition on Monday morning. She earned All-SAA honorable mention from the league's coaches for her work over the course of the season.
Cornell scored two goals and passed out two assists for a total of six points. She fired 28 shots over the course of the year and converted on her only penalty kick try of the season. Her goals came in big moments, as well, as she netted a couple of second-half equalizers. She scored in the 87th minute against Birmingham-Southern on Oct. 7 to tie the game 1-1, and also tallied in the 50th minute against Brevard on Sept. 2 to tie that game at 1-1. The Petrels would go on to earn a draw at Birmingham-Southern and defeat Brevard 2-1.
She tallied assists in the team's 2-0 win over Wesleyan (Georgia) on Aug. 31 and in their 3-2 extra-time loss to Covenant on Sept. 24.
