Lady Netters Stifled by Sewanee

The women's tennis team lost to Sewanee in Tennessee on Saturday afternoon, 9-0. After the match time had been rescheduled twice to accomodate tornadoes in the area, the Tigers efficiently handled their business, winning all matches in straight sets.

The Petrels played without Jayme Danielson in the lineup again as the No.'s 1 and 3 doubles combinations were swept 8-0 by their Sewanee couterparts. The No. 2 duo of Caffrey Francis and Clara Reinheimer fought valiantly before succombing 8-6 to give the Tigers each of the three doubles points.

The stout Tigers then dominated singles play in straight sets. Freshman Tricia Groover, playing at No. 5, was the only Petrel to win 3 or more games in a match as she went down 6-2, 6-3. Complete Sewanee match results listed below.

The Lady Netters are now 2-4 on the season and get set for a big week of tennis on Downing Howell Courts that includes home matches with Birmingham-Southern (Friday at noon), Mississippi College (Saturday at 9 a.m.) and Reinhardt (Saturday at 3 p.m.).
