    Saturday served as Graduation Day for Oglethorpe University, with a large number of Oglethorpe student-athletes receiving their diplomas on the school's academic quad on Saturday morning.
  • Nine Stormy Petrels Named to SAA Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams

    The SAA released their Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams Tuesday, recognizing student-athletes who displayed outstanding sportsmanship over the course of their seasons. The nine Stormy Petrels join a total of 79 student-athletes among the conference's eight full-time members across its 10 sponsored spring sports.
  • Women's Tennis Puts Three on All-SAA Teams; Johnson Earns Second Career First Team Honor

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team placed three members on All-SAA teams this week, as voted by the league's coaches. Junior Caroline Johnson earned her second career All-SAA First Team nod and her third career All-SAA honor of any type. Sophomore Shannon Cruz and freshman Taylor Cranford both earned All-SAA Honorable Mention, marking the first career All-SAA accolade for each of them.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2016-17 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Fifth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the Turner Lynch Campus Center on Oglethorpe's campus. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2016-17 athletic year as a whole.
  • Women's Tennis Sees Season Come to Close with 5-0 Loss to Centre in SAA Semifinals

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team saw their season come to an end Saturday afternoon at Burns Park Tennis Center in North Little Rock, Arkansas, as they fell to No. 2 seed Centre 5-0 in the SAA semifinals. The third-seeded just could not find any answers for an extremely solid Colonels team, and finished their season with a 13-6 overall record.
  • Women's Tennis Bounces Back to Knock off Berry, Advances to First SAA Semifinals

    The No. 3 seed Oglethorpe women's tennis team fell behind No. 6 seed Berry 2-1 after doubles Friday afternoon in their first round SAA Tournament matchup at Burns Park Tennis Center in North Little Rock, Arkansas, but they rallied in a big way, winning four of the five finished singles matches to turn the tables and defeat the Vikings 6-3. The victory means that the Stormy Petrels advance to their first-ever SAA semifinal, and win a conference tournament match for the first time since the first round of the 2012 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament. In addition, it's the first time they've reached a conference semifinal since the 1995 SCAC Tournament.
  • Spring Teams Compete for SAA Championships This Weekend

    This weekend marks the first of three that will feature SAA championship competition, and a number of Stormy Petrel teams will be competing Friday through Sunday for conference bragging rights, including golf, women's lacrosse, tennis, and track and field.
  • Oglethorpe to Co-Host 2022 NCAA Division III Tennis and Men's Golf Championships

    The NCAA selected Oglethorpe University to co-host two of the organization’s Division III national championship events Tuesday. The university will host the 2022 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship and the 2022 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships in conjunction with the Central Florida Sports Commission (CFSC).
  • Taylor Cranford Takes SAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week Honors

    Freshman Taylor Cranford of the Oglethorpe women's tennis team earned SAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors from the league's coaches today, marking the first such honor of her career and the first SAA weekly award a member of the Stormy Petrels women's tennis team has won this season. Cranford had a terrific weekend for the Petrels, going undefeated at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles in their 5-4 win over Millsaps and 6-3 win over Birmingham-Southern.
  • Women's Tennis Clinches Best-Ever Conference Finish with 6-3 Victory over Birmingham-Southern

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team secured the best-ever conference finish in its Division III history Saturday afternoon, as they pulled out a hard-fought 6-3 victory over Birmingham-Southern to secure sole possession of third place in the SAA. The Stormy Petrels secured the victory with a series of victories in extremely tight matches on Saturday, improving their overall record to 12-5 and their conference mark to 5-2.
  • Women's Tennis Earns Huge 5-4 Victory over Millsaps to Vault into Third Place in SAA

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team came through with a gigantic 5-4 victory over the regionally ranked Millsaps Majors Friday afternoon at the Downing Howell Courts, a win that improved the Stormy Petrels to 4-2 in SAA play on the season, moving them into third place by themselves with a single match to go in the regular season and securing their best-ever SAA finish. The victory also improved Oglethorpe to 11-5 on the season overall.
  • Women's Tennis Takes Out Hendrix in SAA Road Match

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team performed well Sunday in a 6-2 victory over the homestanding Hendrix Warriors in Conway, Arkansas. The win featured outstanding performances up and down the lineup, and improved the Stormy Petrels to 10-5 on the season overall and 3-2 in SAA play.
  • Women's Tennis Knocks Off Regionally Ranked Rhodes on Road, 7-2

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team enjoyed an outstanding performance Saturday afternoon, as they went to Memphis, Tennessee, to face a regionally ranked Rhodes team and upended the homestanding Lynx 7-2. The result improved the Stormy Petrels to 9-5 on the season overall and 2-2 in conference play.
  • Women's Tennis Falls to SAA Foe Centre, 6-0

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team faced a tough match against a stout Centre Colonels squad Sunday afternoon in Danville, Kentucky. The Stormy Petrels hung in best they could, but wound up with a 6-0 defeat. The loss dropped the team to 8-5 on the season overall and 1-2 in SAA play.
  • Women's Tennis Swept at No. 16 Sewanee
    April 01, 2017
    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team faced a tough matchup Saturday morning against the No. 16 Sewanee Tigers, and the nationally-ranked side was able to come up with the victory in Sewanee, Tennessee, winning 9-0. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 8-4 on the season overall and 1-1 in SAA play.
  • Women's Tennis Blanks Brooklyn, 9-0

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team went a perfect nine-for-nine Friday afternoon at the Downing Howell Courts, defeating the visiting Brooklyn Bulldogs in a clean sweep. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 8-3 on the season, and served as their fourth win in a row, as well as their sixth over their last seven matches.
  • Women's Tennis Blanks Oxford for Third Straight Victory
    March 25, 2017
    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team continued its excellent run of play Saturday at the Downing Howell Courts, defeating Oxford 9-0 to improve to 7-3 on the season overall. The Stormy Petrels have won five of their last six matches, including three victories in a row dating back to March 19 at Berry.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics to Celebrate Start of Division III Week with Cookout on Sunday, April 2

    The Oglethorpe athletic department will celebrate the start of NCAA Division III Week on Sunday, April 2, with a cookout that will be ongoing during the baseball game against Centre and the men's lacrosse game against Hendrix that afternoon. The cookout will take place from noon to 3 p.m., and will be held at Petey's Party Pavilion, the landing overlooking right field at Anderson Field.
  • Women's Tennis Grabs Second Straight Win, Defeats Agnes Scott 5-4

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team won their second consecutive match and have won four of their last five after a 5-4 victory over the Agnes Scott Scotties Thursday afternoon at the Downing Howell Courts. The Stormy Petrels clinched the dual match early, outscoring Agnes Scott 5-1 over the first six completed matches. The Scotties responded by winning the last three, but it didn't matter. The Petrels improved to 6-3 on the season with the victory.
  • Women's Tennis Gets SAA Season off to Outstanding Start with 6-3 Win at Berry
    March 19, 2017
    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team earned a victory Sunday afternoon in their SAA opener, defeating in-state opponent Berry 6-3 on the road for their first victory over the homestanding Vikings since the two schools joined the SAA. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 5-3 on the season overall, as well as 1-0 in SAA play.
  • Wednesday Women's Tennis Match at Covenant Postponed Due to Forecast Inclement Weather
    March 13, 2017
    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team's match on Wednesday afternoon atop Lookout Mountain against Covenant has been postponed due to forecast cold conditions. The forecast for Lookout Mountain on Wednesday currently calls for temperatures of around 35 degrees, with wind chills below 30 degrees, at the scheduled start time of the match. A makeup date has yet to be announced.
  • Women's Tennis Falls to Haverford, 5-4, to Close Out Spring Break Trip

    An Oglethorpe women's tennis team depleted from playing five matches in four days gave it their all Wednesday against Haverford at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, but they couldn't quite get over the hump against the Fords, falling 5-4 to close their stay in central Florida at 2-3 on the trip and 4-3 overall.
  • Women's Tennis Sweeps Third Day of Spring Break Trip with Victories over Ursinus, Aquinas

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team enjoyed an outstanding day on their spring break trip to central Florida Tuesday, earning a tight 5-4 victory over Ursinus in the morning in Kissimmee before heading back down to Orlando for 6-3 victory over Aquinas in the afternoon. The two wins improved the Stormy Petrels to 4-2 on the season, with match remaining in the team's spring break schedule.
  • Women's Tennis Falls to Regionally-Ranked Methodist, 7-2

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team found themselves in another tough matchup against regionally-ranked Methodist Monday morning at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. They hung tough for most of the match, entering singles play down 2-1, but couldn't hold on in the end, falling 7-2 to the Monarchs. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 2-2 on the season.
  • Women's Tennis Suffers Tough 5-4 Loss to Regionally-Ranked Coe to Start Spring Break

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team fought a tough battle against the regionally-ranked Coe Kohawks Sunday at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida, but fell 5-4 in the end. After coming back from 4-2 down to tie the dual match at 4-4, the Stormy Petrels fell in the final match at No. 5 singles to give the Kohawks the win. The result dropped Oglethorpe to 2-1 on the season.
  • Wednesday Tennis Matches at Covenant Postponed
    February 28, 2017
    The Oglethorpe tennis teams were scheduled to play Covenant on Lookout Mountain Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., but those matches have now been postponed due to forecast storms in north Georgia. The women's match will now take place March 15 at 4 p.m. and the men will play the Scots April 4 at 4 p.m. Both matches will still take place on Lookout Mountain in northwest Georgia.
  • Women's Tennis Match with Agnes Scott Postponed Due to Rain
    February 27, 2017
    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team saw their match against Agnes Scott, scheduled for Monday afternoon, postponed due to forecast rain in the Atlanta area. The match has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 23, at 4 p.m. on the Downing Howell Courts.
  • Women's Tennis Sweeps Piedmont for Second Win in as Many Days to Start Spring Season

    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team earned its second sweep in as many days in their home opener Thursday afternoon at the Downing Howell Courts, defeating the visiting Piedmont Lions 9-0 to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
  • Women's Tennis Opens Season with Emphatic Sweep of Wesleyan
    February 22, 2017
    The Oglethorpe women's tennis team got their season off to an outstanding start on Wednesday evening with a clean sweep of the homestanding Wesleyan Wolves, going on the road to defeat them 9-0 in Macon. The Stormy Petrels did not lose a set and only dropped 13 total games over the course of the entire dual match.
  • 2017 Women's Tennis Spring Preview

    The Oglethorpe women’s tennis team looks to be very solid this year, as they come off their best year ever in 2016. They accumulated a 10-9 record and a fifth-place finish in the SAA. They also posted a year-end regional ranking of No. 13 in the Atlantic South – a first for the women's tennis program in the Division III era.
