The Oglethorpe women's team swept the LaGrange Panthers, 9-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Howell Courts. It was a match where Caroline Johnson and Halley Sickling were honored as part of Senior Day. Sickling and junior Shannon Cruz wasted no time picking up an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles, while Johnson and sophomore Hannah Dattilo picked up an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
In singles play, the Petrels swept all matches in straight sets, with Johnson winning at No. 1, 6-0, 6-1. Dattilo picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2, while Cruz blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Sickling won at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1.
After the match, Oglethorpe head coach Peter Howell had this to say: "It was great to get back on the winning track after a tough weekend. It was awesome to have our two seniors, Caroline Johnson and Halley Sickling, who have helped bring this program to new levels, get wins in both singles and doubles on Senior day. We are looking forward to the weekend against two very tough opponents."
With the win, the Petrels improved to 9-6 overall. They will conclude their regular season this weekend by hosting SAA foes Centre and No. 11 Sewanee on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
