Short-Handed Track Squads Struggle in Birmingham

The Oglethorpe men's and women's track teams, depleted by injuries and missing several athletes, struggled at the Southern Classic in Birmingham yesterday. The meet was not without highlights, however.

Freshman Katy Galli continued her assault on the school record book by breaking her own record in the 100 hurdles by running a 15.92. She also set as personal record in the 400 meter hurdles. Sophomore Kyana Jenkins had her best day as a track athlete with personal bests in all her events: the 100, 200 and long jump.

The men's team's highlights included freshman Michael Caneega posting personal records in two events - the 800 and 1500 meters - and he also led the depleted men's 4x400 team with a personal best as the anchor leg. The other men's highlight was Alexander Johnson's personal best in both the 200 and 400 meters.

Spring break comes just in time for both squads as they can heal up and get ready for the big Emory Classic on March 30.
