Katy Galli continued her amazing freshman season by scoring in all five events she was entered in yesterday's Gem of the Hills classic in Jacksonville Ala. Galli broke her own triple jump record by posting an 11.10 meter record, while also scoring in the long jump, 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles and part of the 400x1 relay team.
She was not the only story for the women's team however. Even with many injuries and scratches, the Petrel women managed a very creditable 7th place finish in which they were the only Division III school competing. Senior Bianca Hernould had the race of her career, finishing third in the steeple while PR'ing by 43 seconds. Captain Raven Foust bettered her own 800 PR to continue the outstanding performances by the women.
The men's team, wracked with injuries, struggled against the competition and finished 14th.
Both relay teams had to scratch due to injury and they were limited in the open events. Easily the highlight was freshman Michael Caneega's personal best in the 800 meter and his scoring in the 3k steeple. Freshman Alexander Johnson also had personal bests in the 200 and 400 meters while freshman Brandon Foster had the same in the 400m.
It's back to Alabama this coming Saturday for the Petrels as they compete in a rare dual meet at NAIA Concordia College.
