  • Arielle Shaw Set to Compete at NCAA Division III Triple Jump Championships

    Sophomore Arielle Shaw of the Oglethorpe track and field team is getting set to compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon. The Stormy Petrel will take part in the triple jump competition at 1:30 p.m. from the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. It will mark the second consecutive time she's competed at the outdoor national meet in the triple jump competition, as she did so in Waverly, Iowa, in 2016.
  • Shaw Finishes 15th at NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships Triple Jump Competition

    Sophomore Arielle Shaw of the Oglethorpe track and field team finished 15th in the women's triple jump at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon, marking the highest finish by a Stormy Petrel at the national meet since Katy Galli finished 14th in the triple jump at the 2014 meet. She posted her best jump, a leap of 38 feet, on the first of her three attempts.
  • Arielle Shaw Nabs Second Straight Outdoor Track and Field All-Region Honor

    Sophomore Arielle Shaw of the Oglethorpe women's track and field team picked up her second outdoor All-Region award in as many years Monday afternoon, earning the accolade from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) out of the South/Southeast region in the triple jump. She earned All-Region status in the same event for both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2016.
  • Arielle Shaw Qualifies for Second Consecutive NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

    Sophomore Arielle Shaw of the Oglethorpe track and field team officially qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the triple jump competition Saturday, marking her second consecutive trip to the national meet in that discipline and the fourth year in a row that a member of the Stormy Petrels has qualified. The qualifier has competed in the triple jump in each of the four years (Katy Galli, 2014-15).
  • Four Track and Field Petrels Compete at Aggie Last Chance Meet

    The Oglethorpe track and field team saw four athletes compete at the Aggie Last Chance meet Sunday in Greensboro, North Carolina, as the quartet looked to improve their qualifying position headed to the May 19 cutoff for entry into the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

    The SAA released their Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams Tuesday, recognizing student-athletes who displayed outstanding sportsmanship over the course of their seasons. The nine Stormy Petrels join a total of 79 student-athletes among the conference's eight full-time members across its 10 sponsored spring sports.
  • Shaw Records Season-Best Leap in Triple Jump at Torrin Lawrence Memorial

    The Oglethorpe track and field team sent four athletes to the Torrin Lawrence Memorial in Athens on Saturday, as the group tried to improve their standing on the NCAA performance list in an effort to qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the end of the month.
  • Kayla Trice Earns SAA Women's Track and Field Newcomer of the Year Honors

    Freshman Kayla Trice of the Oglethorpe women's track and field team earned SAA Women's Track and Field Newcomer of the Year honors on Thursday. The awards were voted on by the league's coaches, and it marks the second consecutive season, as well as the third time in the last four seasons, that a member of the Stormy Petrels has won the women's track and field newcomer award.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2016-17 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Fifth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the Turner Lynch Campus Center on Oglethorpe's campus. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2016-17 athletic year as a whole.
  • Women's Track Finshes Sixth, Men Seventh at SAA Championships; Trice Wins Women's 100-Meter Title

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams closed out their stay at the SAA Track and Field Championships Saturday with a variety of excellent performances, including an SAA title in the women's 100-meter dash by freshman Kayla Trice. As a result, the women's team finished sixth for the 2-day event at Valhalla stadium in Mount Berry, while the men finished seventh.
  • Spring Teams Compete for SAA Championships This Weekend

    This weekend marks the first of three that will feature SAA championship competition, and a number of Stormy Petrel teams will be competing Friday through Sunday for conference bragging rights, including golf, women's lacrosse, tennis, and track and field.

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams enjoyed a good outing at the Mountain Laurel Invitational in Sewanee, Tennessee, Friday. The men's team finished fourth at the event while the women's team came in seventh. The Stormy Petrels got victories on the day from sophomore Arielle Shaw of the women's team, who took home accolades in the triple jump, and senior Malik Willis, who won the title in the 400-meter hurdles.

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams continued their season at the Berry Field Day Invitational in Mount Berry this weekend, and freshman Kayla Trice stole the show for yet another week. She led the women's team to an eighth-place finish overall while placing in four events. Meanwhile, the men's team took down an 11th-place finish on the weekend.

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams enjoyed a successful day at the Hilltop Classic in Birmingham, Alabama, as the women finished sixth and the men seventh at the meet. The day was also highlighted by freshman Omari Miller taking the 800-meter title and freshman Kayla Trice continuing to dominate in the 100-meter.

    Freshmen Kayla Trice and Omari Miller of the Oglethorpe track and field team have earned weekly honors from the SAA league office for their efforts at this past weekend's Emory Classic in Atlanta. Trice took SAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Miller garnered SAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week accolades. It marked the first two SAA weekly awards for the track and field program this season.
  • Track and Field Competes against Stacked Field at Emory Classic

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams got some outstanding competition from teams at a variety of levels this weekend, as they went against Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA competition at the Emory Classic Friday and Saturday at Emory's Woodruff Physical Education Center. The men finished 18th against the impressive field, while the women came in 21st.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics to Celebrate Start of Division III Week with Cookout on Sunday, April 2

    The Oglethorpe athletic department will celebrate the start of NCAA Division III Week on Sunday, April 2, with a cookout that will be ongoing during the baseball game against Centre and the men's lacrosse game against Hendrix that afternoon. The cookout will take place from noon to 3 p.m., and will be held at Petey's Party Pavilion, the landing overlooking right field at Anderson Field.
  • Track and Field Competes at 2-Day Emory Invitational

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams competed well over a 2-day Emory Invitational in Atlanta Friday and Saturday, and saw some difficult competition, including a large number of Division II schools to go with plenty of Division III competition. The Stormy Petrel men's team finished tied for 26th at the 2-day meet.
  • Men's Track and Field Finishes 14th, Women 17th at Southern Invitational

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams competed this weekend at the Southern Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama, a meet featuring a variety of competition from Division III, Division II and NAIA schools. The men's team finished 14th in the team competition, while the women's team posted a 17th-place finish for the 2-day event.
  • Track and Field Kicks Off Outdoor Season at Berry's Victor Icebreaker; Men Finish Fifth, Women Eighth

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams got their outdoor season off to a good start Saturday at the Victor Icebreaker Duals, held by Berry College at Valhalla stadium in Mount Berry. The men's team finished fifth at the meet, with freshman Jonathan Vernon taking the title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and senior Malik Willis doing so in the 400 hurdles. Meanwhile, sophomore Arielle Shaw won the women's triple jump competition, getting her outdoor season off to an excellent start, while the women finished eighth as a team.
  • Track and Field Enjoys Productive Day at Sewanee Indoor Invitational

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams enjoyed a very successful day at their final indoor meet of the winter Friday in Tennessee. The men's team finished second and the women third at the Sewanee Indoor Invitational on the afternoon, with the team earning a raft of individual titles to go with the team finishes.
  • Oglethorpe Celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day

    The Oglethorpe athletic department and the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday at the Schmidt Recreation Center on Oglethorpe's campus. Inclement weather moved the event inside from its originally scheduled location at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, but it didn't dampen the mood of any of the participants.
  • Men's Track Finishes 4th, Women 8th at Tiger Indoor Invitational; Malik Willis Takes 400-Meter Title

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams enjoyed a very productive day at the Tiger Indoor Invitational Saturday in Sewanee, Tennessee, as the men's team finished fourth at the event while the women's squad finished eighth. In addition, senior Malik Willis took home the individual title in the men's 400-meter dash, posting a time of 52.64 seconds around the course. This serves as his first individual title since his SAA championship in the same event back in April 2016.
  • Four School Indoor Track and Field Records Fall at Buccaneer Invitational

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams spent the weekend in Johnson City, Tennessee, at the Buccaneer Track and Field Invitational, and will bring home four indoor school records for their efforts. The event, hosted by East Tennessee State at their ETSU/Mountain States Health Alliance Athletic Center, saw both freshmen Nick Evans and Hava Stenn earn school indoor records in the 5,000-meter run on Friday, while sophomore Rodrigo Meade took the 3,000-meter record and freshman Omari Miller grabbed the 800-meter record on Saturday.
  • National Girls and Women in Sports Day to Be Held Feb. 12 at Oglethorpe Track and Field

    The Oglethorpe athletic department and the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Oglethorpe Track and Field starting at 11:30 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved inside to the Schmidt Recreation Center.
  • Track and Field Gets Spring Season Off to Solid Start at Emory Crossplex Invitational in Birmingham

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams competed in the Emory Crossplex Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama, Sunday and came away with a solid performance. The men finished tied for 18th as a team while the women had several good performances, as well, against a mix of Divison I, II and III competition with a couple of NAIA teams thrown in for good measure.
  • 2017 Track and Field Season Preview

    The Oglethorpe track and field teams will be back in action Sunday afternoon at the Emory Crossplex Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama. The single-day event at the Birmingham Crossplex will serve as a kickoff to the bulk of indoor track and field season for the Stormy Petrel teams. The Petrels will look to build on a 2016 season in which they should a solid amount of improvement, garnering a sixth-place finish for the women and seventh place for the men at the SAA Track and Field Championships.
  • Oglethorpe SAAC Finishes Successful First Annual Toy Drive for Patients at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

    The Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committtee (SAAC) wound up their First Annual Toy Drive last week and delivered the toys received to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital on Friday.
