Women's Track and Field Takes 11th to Kick off Outdoor Season

The Oglethorpe women's track and field team took 11th place at the Victor Icebreaker Duals on Saturday, getting their outdoor season underway at Valhalla stadium in Mount Berry.

The Stormy Petrels were led by sophomore Kayla Trice's performance in the 100-meter dash, as she recorded a third-place finish with a time of 12.38 seconds. Junior Nicolette Andrey competed well in the 400-meter hurdles, as well, coming across the finish line in 1 minute, 9.4 seconds to place sixth in the event. The 4-by-400-meter relay team of freshman Reagan Goodwin, freshman Julie Ericson, junior May Mizell and freshman Courtney Stuart finished eighth with a time of 4:36.39.

"I thought we had a great showing from our women's team today," said Oglethorpe head coach Kirk Shellhouse. "A lot of our athletes continued success from the indoor season to the outdoor track. Kayla did a great job in the hundred and 200 [she finished 10th in the latter], with Nicky running tough in the 400 hurdles for the first time. Definitely still working on a lot of things as we head into the full outdoor schedule. Big things to come from this group."

The Petrels will next be in action on Friday and Saturday, as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama, for the Southern Invitational.
