The Oglethorpe volleyball team dropped its first conference match of the season Wednesday night, 3-0. The visiting Vikings took the first set 25-10, the second set 25-14, and the third set 27-25.
In the first set, Berry went on a seven-point run to effectively put the set away. After the run, they were up 21-9 and easily cruised from there. In the second set, the Petrels were close at 9-7, but Berry went on another run, outscoring Oglethorpe 16-7 to finish out the set.
The third and final set went right down to the wire. Neither side let by more than two points throughout the set, and the Petrels held an 18-16 lead at one point. However, Berry finished four straight points to go ahead 20-18, and though Oglethorpe was able to come back and tie it, they never again took the lead.
The Petrels volleyball team drops to 1-1 with this result, 0-1 in SAA play. They will next be in action this weekend, when they will go on their first conference road trip. They will be at Sewanee on Saturday at 2 p.m. and at Centre on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
