  • Oglethorpe Athletics Closes 2016-17 Season with Petey Awards Ceremony

    The Oglethorpe athletic department rounded out the season with the Fifth Annual Petey Awards on Sunday, hosted at the Turner Lynch Campus Center on Oglethorpe's campus. The event, which is produced by the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), allowed Oglethorpe student-athletes to honor the best and brightest performances of the year while reflecting on the 2016-17 athletic year as a whole.
  • Oglethorpe Athletics to Celebrate Start of Division III Week with Cookout on Sunday, April 2

    The Oglethorpe athletic department will celebrate the start of NCAA Division III Week on Sunday, April 2, with a cookout that will be ongoing during the baseball game against Centre and the men's lacrosse game against Hendrix that afternoon. The cookout will take place from noon to 3 p.m., and will be held at Petey's Party Pavilion, the landing overlooking right field at Anderson Field.

  • Oglethorpe Celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day

    The Oglethorpe athletic department and the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday at the Schmidt Recreation Center on Oglethorpe's campus. Inclement weather moved the event inside from its originally scheduled location at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, but it didn't dampen the mood of any of the participants.
  • Thirty-Eight Stormy Petrels Named to 2016 SAA Fall Academic Honor Roll

    The Oglethorpe athletic department saw 38 student-athletes named to the Southern Athletic Association 2016 Fall Sudent-Athlete Academic Honor Roll Friday.
  • National Girls and Women in Sports Day to Be Held Feb. 12 at Oglethorpe Track and Field

    The Oglethorpe athletic department and the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Oglethorpe Track and Field starting at 11:30 a.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved inside to the Schmidt Recreation Center.
  • Five Stormy Petrels Named to SAA Fall All-Sportsmanship Teams

    The SAA released their 2016 Fall All-Sportsmanship Teams Tuesday, recognizing student-athletes who displayed outstanding sportsmanship over the course of their seasons. The five Stormy Petrels selected join a total of 55 student-athletes among the conference's eight full-time and four affiliate members across its seven sponsored fall sports.

  • Volleyball Season Comes to Close with 3-0 Defeat to Birmingham-Southern in SAA Tournament Quarters

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team saw its 2016 season draw to a close Friday night in the first round of the SAA Tournament in Conway, Arkansas, as the seventh-seeded Stormy Petrels fell to the second-seeded Birmingham-Southern Panthers, 3-0. With the loss, the Petrels finish the season 11-19, marking the second time in the last three seasons that the program has finished with double-digit victories.
  • Two Stormy Petrels Named to All-SAA Volleyball Teams

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team saw junior setter Jordan Jones and junior middle hitter Kaitlyn Woodruff earn All-SAA Honorable Mention recognition Friday morning at the pre-championship awards ceremony at the SAA Tournament in Conway, Arkansas. It marked the second career All-SAA honor for Woodruff, who took All-SAA Honorable Mention as a freshman in 2014, and the first for Jones.
  • Volleyball Ends Regular Season on High Note, Sweeps Huntingdon 3-0

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team saw their regular season come to a close in style Thursday night at Dorough Field House, as they swept through the visiting Huntingdon Hawks 3-0 to finish the regular year 11-18 and win their third match in their last four tries. The Stormy Petrels hit .320 as a team on the night, including a .382 mark in the first set and a .371 tally in the third, a mark which allowed them to cruise to the 3-set victory.
  • Volleyball Closes SAA Slate with 3-2 Comeback Win over Millsaps

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team secured a tie for sixth place in the SAA Sunday afternoon with a thrilling comeback victory over Millsaps at Dorough Field House. The Stormy Petrels came back from being down a set twice in a 3-2 victory over the Majors that improved Oglethorpe to 10-18 on the season overall heading into their final regular season game against Huntingdon on Thursday, and secured their highest-ever SAA finish with a final mark of 3-11 in league play.
  • Volleyball Swept by Birmingham-Southern

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team fell 3-0 to Birmingham-Southern Saturday afternoon at Dorough Field House, dropping sets 25-16, 25-14 and 25-21 to the visiting Panthers. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 9-18 on the season overall and 2-11 in SAA play headed into their final conference match of the season.
  • Volleyball to Celebrate Dig Pink Day at Saturday Match against Birmingham-Southern

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team will be hosting their annual Dig Pink celebration during their match Saturday afternoon against Birmingham-Southern. The match is scheduled to get started at 1 p.m. from Dorough Field House.
  • Volleyball Sweeps Away Wesleyan in Straight Sets

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team took out visiting Wesleyan (Georgia) in straight sets Wednesday night at the Dorough Field House, defeating them 25-5, 25-8, 25-12. The Stormy Petrels got solid performances across the board and saw their entire active roster get action in the match. The result improved the Petrels to 9-17 on the season.
  • Volleyball Falls in Matches to Rhodes and Covenant
    October 15, 2016
    The Oglethorpe volleyball team fell Saturday afternoon in a pair of home matches, dropping an SAA contest to Rhodes 3-0 before falling to non-conference opponent Covenant 3-0 in the final match of the day. The results dropped the Stormy Petrels to 8-17 on the season overall and 2-10 in SAA play.
  • Volleyball Falls to No. 25 Hendrix and Texas Lutheran in Tri-Match Sweep

    It was a tough day for the Oglethorpe volleyball team on Friday, as they were swept by No. 25 Hendrix and Texas Lutheran in a tri-match at Dorough Field House. The results dropped the Stormy Petrels to 8-15 on the season overall and 2-9 in SAA play.
  • Volleyball Drops Matches to Emory and Agnes Scott

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team went 0-2 in a non-conference tri-match Tuesday on Emory's campus in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, falling to No. 5 Emory 3-0 before dropping a tight, back-and-forth affair with Agnes Scott 3-2. The results dropped the Stormy Petrels to 8-13 on the season overall.
  • Volleyball Falls at Hands of Centre 3-Set Comeback

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team built a 2-0 lead over the homestanding Centre Colonels Sunday afternoon in Danville, Kentucky, but saw the home side bounce back to take the final three sets of the match and win 3-2. It marked the second time this season that Centre pulled that feat on the Stormy Petrels and it came less than 24 hours after Oglethorpe had accomplished the same feat against Sewanee. The loss dropped the Petrels to 8-11 on the season overall and 2-8 in SAA play.
  • Volleyball Storms Back from Two Sets Down to Clip Sewanee, 3-2

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team stormed back from two sets down Saturday to win three sets in a row and stun the homestanding Sewanee Tigers 3-2 in Sewanee, Tennessee. The Stormy Petrels used a 25-16 victory in the third set and a 27-25 win in the fourth set after being down to match point at 24-23 to force a decisive fifth set. The Petrels won the final set 15-13 to claim the comeback victory, which improved the team to 8-10 on the season overall and 2-7 in SAA play.

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team found itself in a tough matchup against the Birmingham-Southern Panthers Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama, and the homestanding Panthers came up with a 3-0 victory, beating the Stormy Petrels 25-21, 25-15, 25-20. The loss dropped Oglethorpe to 7-9 on the season overall and 1-6 in SAA play.
  • Volleyball Falls at Millsaps in Straight Sets

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team found themselves in a tough matchup with the Millsaps Majors Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Mississippi, and just couldn't get untracked in a 3-0 loss. The Stormy Petrels fell 25-17, 25-18, 25-18, and drop to 7-8 on the season overall and 1-5 in SAA play.
  • Oglethorpe SAAC to Raise Money to Fight Pediatric Cancer on Family Weekend

    The Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be presenting a variety of activities surrounding Family Weekend here on campus. The events will culminate with a fundraiser at the SAA soccer doubleheader against Sewanee Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the Oglethorpe Track and Field.
  • Volleyball Improves to .500 with 3-0 Sweep of Division II Clark Atlanta

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team improved to .500 on the season with a 3-0 sweep of Division II opponent Clark Atlanta Wednesday evening at Epps Gymnasium in Atlanta. The Stormy Petrels controlled the opening set throughout, then used mid-set comebacks in the second and third to take both and seep the homestanding Panthers. The Petrels now sit at 7-7 on the year as they get set to head back into SAA play over the weekend.
  • Volleyball Nabs First SAA Win Since 2014 with 3-0 Sweep of Sewanee

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team came out after a couple tough losses in a row and dominated the Sewanee Tigers Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House, winning a comprehensive 3-0 victory. The win marked the program's first SAA victory since their 3-1 home triumph over Rhodes on Oct. 19, 2014, and improved them to 6-7 on the season overall and 1-4 in SAA play.
  • Volleyball Drops Three Straight to Centre and Falls, 3-2

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team built a two-set lead over SAA opponent Centre Saturday at Dorough Field House, but the visiting Colonels won three sets in a row after that to come back and defeat Oglethorpe 3-2. It was the second consecutive match in which the Petrels held a 2-0 lead but went on to lose. The defeat dropped Oglethorpe to 5-7 on the season overall and 0-4 in conference play.
  • Rhodes Comes Back from Two Sets Down to Beat Volleyball in Five

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team got off to an excellent start Sunday afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee, as they pulled ahead of conference rival Rhodes 2-0 early in the match. However, the homestanding Lynx fought back and won three consecutive stanzas to turn the match around and take it 3-2. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 5-6 on the season overall and 0-3 in SAA play.

    The Oglethorpe volleyball team found itself in a tough matchup Saturday afternoon in Conway, Arkansas, as they went up against the No. 20 Hendrix Warriors. The Stormy Petrels fought valiantly, but fell 3-0 to the homestanding Warriors, dropping to 5-5 on the season overall and 0-2 in SAA play.
