Sophomore libero Taryn North of the Oglethorpe volleyball team earned SAA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors from the league office on Monday after playing well all week and leading the Stormy Petrels to a 3-1 victory at Rhodes on Sunday.
North recorded 5.94 digs per set over the course of the week, which included matches against No. 4 Emory, Hendrix, Rhodes and Agnes Scott. She recorded 33 digs in her team's 3-1 road win over Rhodes on Sunday, in addition to tallying 25 against Hendrix, 22 against Agnes Scott and 15 against Emory. She also produced eight assists over the course of the four matches. For the season, North is second in the league with 5.58 digs per set and third with 318 total digs.
"Congratulations go out not just to Taryn but the whole team," said Oglethorpe head coach Joseph Goodson. "This is a testament to all the hard work that all of the women put in, but especially Taryn. She's worked hard and been a leader, and this award is clearly the fruits of all her efforts."
North and the rest of the Petrels will now return home for a pair of SAA battles. They'll take on Birmingham-Southern Friday at 7 p.m. from Dorough Field House before welcoming Millsaps Saturday at noon.
