The Oglethorpe volleyball team fell to the No. 24 Berry Vikings Wednesday night at the Cage Center in Mount Berry, Georgia, 3-0. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 0-8 on the season overall and 0-1 in SAA play.
The first set was tied 5-5 in the early-going, but the Vikings slowly pulled away to gain a 16-10 lead. From there, Berry went on an 8-0 run to close it out and win it, 25-12. The home side won by the same score in the second set, as well, building a 20-9 lead before finishing off the stanza by a 25-12 count.
In the third set, Berry took an early 6-3 lead, but the Petrels responded to make it 8-7. The Vikings pushed their advantage back out to 15-11 with a 4-point run, then ran off eight straight points to take control of the set, 23-11. From there, they finished the match off by winning the third set, 25-13.
The Petrels were led offensively by junior outside hitter Brianna Chin, who recorded six kills. Sophomore libero Hailee Bugg led the Petrels with 14 digs, while freshman setters Grace Holder and Emma Williams had eight and seven assists, respectively.
The Petrels will continue their SAA schedule Saturday and Sunday. They'll travel to Tennessee to take on Sewanee Saturday at noon Eastern, then will continue to Danville, Kentucky, at 2 p.m. Sunday to go against Centre.
