Joseph Goodson resigns as head volleyball coach

Joseph Goodson announced his resignation as head coach of the Oglethorpe University volleyball program on Friday. The resignation will be effective immediately.

Goodson took control of the program prior to the 2017 season and compiled a 10-44 record during his two seasons with the program. The Stormy Petrels finished tied for seventh in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) in 2018 and eighth in the league in 2017, losing in the first round of the SAA Tournament both years.

During his time with the team, Goodson coached three All-SAA performers including two-time All-SAA second team outside hitter Jacoby Sims. His teams put two players on All-SAA honorable mention lists over those seasons, including senior middle blocker Ashlee Tolbert in 2018.

Goodson's athletes were successful in the classroom, as he coached 11 SAA academic honor roll recipients during the 2017 season. The 2018 SAA academic honor roll list will be released at the conclusion of the fall semester.

The Oglethorpe athletic department will now commence a national search for its next head volleyball coach.
