Sophomore Hava Stenn of the Oglethorpe women's cross country team was named the SAA Women's Runner of the Week in a vote by the league's coaches Tuesday, marking the second such award of her career and the first time that a member of the squad has earned the accolade this season.
Stenn had a tremendous day at the Piedmont Invitational on Saturday. She finished seventh in the six-kilometer race, setting a new Oglethorpe school record of 24 minutes, 6.5 seconds at that distance. She bested the previous program mark by 28 seconds. The Stormy Petrel sophomore was also the second-best finisher among Division III athletes at the meet.
"I'm very proud of Hava having a great end to her regular season," said Oglethorpe head coach Kirk Shellhouse. "She dealt with some adversity earlier in the season and we're excited to see her come through and take back a school record that she already set once as a freshman. She did an awesome job on Saturday, really taking it to her competitors. She's tough and has grit, and hopefully that'll translate well as we head into the championship time of year."
Stenn and the rest of the Petrels will close out their regular season with a trip to Mount Berry on Saturday for the Berry Invitational. After that, they'll get set for the SAA Championships, which will take place at Nash Farm Battlefield on Saturday, Oct. 28, and will be hosted by Oglethorpe.
