Sophomore Anthony DeRosa of the Oglethorpe men's golf team nabbed the SAA Men's Golfer of the Week award this week for his efforts at the Stormy Petrels' own Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational Friday through Sunday at the Jekyll Island Golf Club. It marked his first career SAA weekly award.
DeRosa finished tied for fourth at the prestigious tournament, which took place on the club's Pine Lakes course. He totaled 5-under-par 211 for the tournament, accruing rounds of 1-over 73, 4-under 68, and 2-under 70. He finished seven strokes back of Huntingdon's Stephen Shephard, the individual medalist. DeRosa accrued 13 birdies over the course of the 54-hole tournament. He led his team to a fourth-place finish out of 30 teams amidst a national field at Jekyll Island.
He and the rest of the Petrels continue their spring season on April 5 when they travel to North Carolina for the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Golf Championship at the Paradise Point golf course on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville. That 54-hole tournament runs April 5-7.
