"At a national field event of 18 of the top 25 in the country, the goal is to finish in the top half of the field," said Oglethorpe Director of Golf Jim Owen. "We stayed in it most of the weekend but just kind of faltered down the stretch on Sunday."
A tough end to Round 1 on Saturday led the Petrels to lose "11 strokes in about 45 minutes, seven of which counted against us dropping from fifth to 14th," continued Owen. "We recovered nicely in Round 2, but got off to a slow start in Round 3, and if you weren't controlling your golf ball, the wind was controlling it."
Emory won the tournament by six strokes over second-place Illinois Wesleyan, posting a 10-over 874 for the event. Huntingdon, St. Thomas (Minnesota), and Washington and Lee rounded out the top five.
The Petrels will be back in action Sept. 30th- Oct. 1 in Columbus, Ohio, at the Gordin Collegiate Classic at Columbus Country Club, where they will look to bounce back and continue their fall season charge.
