Men's cross country finishes sixth at Rhodes College Invitational, second among Division III competition

The Oglethorpe men's cross country team finished second among Division III teams Saturday at the Rhodes College Invitational. The Stormy Petrels finished sixth overall with 210 points, coming in behind Emory and Division I teams Tulsa, Memphis, Arkansas State and Cincinnati, but ahead of defending SAA champions Rhodes. It also marked the first time that an SAA team had beaten the Lynx in a meet since 2015. The Petrels also bested Division III mates Centre, Berry, Ozarks, East Texas Baptist, Millsaps and Concordia.

The Petrels got an outstanding performance from senior Rodrigo Meade, who finished 29th in 25 minutes, 51.9 seconds on the 8-kilometer Shelby Farms course in Memphis, Tennessee. Senior Mateo Villa finished 37th with a time of 26:07.8 and junior Bill Lester came in 56th in 26:39.5. Senior Nick Evans came in just behind that in 57th with a time of 26:39.8, while freshman Patrick Smith finished 58th at 26:41.6.

Oglethorpe will next take to the course next Saturday when they go back to Tennessee for the Sewanee Invitational.
