  • Women's basketball moves up to No. 19 in latest coaches poll

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team bumped up a spot to No. 19 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll Tuesday. They re-entered the poll at No. 20 on Nov. 26. It marked the third time in 2019 that the WBCA ranked the Stormy Petrels and equaled the highest ranking the team has attained so far this season. The organization ranked the Petrels 19th in the preseason, as well.
  • Women's basketball withstands late Emory comeback, holds on to win 76-72

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team never trailed Tuesday evening in a 76-72 victory over crosstown rival Emory, but the game proved far from easy for the Stormy Petrels. They held a 17-point fourth-quarter lead only to watch the visiting Eagles storm back to tie the game with 18 seconds remaining. Oglethorpe got two clutch free throws from senior guard Morgan Grindle and a big steal from sophomore guard Amy Vazquez in the final 15 seconds to secure the victory, though, improving to 7-1 on the season.
  • Women's basketball reenters coaches' poll at No. 20

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team re-entered the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll at No. 20 Tuesday, bouncing back after spending a week outside of the top 25. It marked the second time in 2019 that the Stormy Petrels were ranked in the WBCA poll after they were 19th in the preseason release.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team went into the Thanksgiving break on a high note Tuesday evening at Dorough Field House, running past the visiting Covenant Scots 80-58 to improve to 6-1 on the season. The Stormy Petrels outscored Covenant 46-25 in the first half and 24-12 in the third quarter to pull out to a huge lead and cruise to victory.
  • Women's basketball completes perfect weekend in Kentucky with 67-58 win over Otterbein
    November 23, 2019
    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team completed a perfect weekend at the Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic in Danville, Kentucky, Saturday, handing the Otterbein Cardinals their first loss of the season 67-58. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 5-1 on the season.
  • Women's basketball blows out Maryville to open weekend in Kentucky

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team continued their hot start to the season Friday evening with a 72-51 victory over Maryville (Tennessee) on Day 1 of the Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic in Danville, Kentucky. The Stormy Petrels used a dominating performance on the defensive end and on the boards to improve to 4-1 on the season.
  • Women's basketball uses third-quarter run to pull away from Randolph-Macon 73-53

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team bounced back from a tough loss Friday with a 73-53 win over Randolph-Macon on Day 2 of the Comfort Suites Classic Saturday in Emory, Virginia. The Stormy Petrels outscored the Yellow Jackets 25-7 in the third quarter en route to 20-point victory, which improved the team to 3-1 on the season.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team fell to Emory and Henry 77-61 Friday on the first day of the Comfort Suites Classic in Emory, Virginia. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 2-1 on the season.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team swept the SAA/USA South Classic over the weekend, completing their season-opening pair of contests with an 83-76 victory over the Piedmont Lions Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House. The Stormy Petrels withstood a Piedmont second-half comeback to hold onto victory down the stretch.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team made quick work of the visiting LaGrange Panthers in their season opener, defeating them 78-54 on Day 1 of the SAA/USA South Classic to start the season 1-0.

    The Oglethorpe women's basketball team is set to take the floor Saturday to begin their season against in-state opponent LaGrange in the SAA/USA South Classic. The Stormy Petrels are coming off their second straight NCAA tournament appearance and their first victory at the national tournament since 2009. They'll look to follow up on their 23-7 record in 2018-19 with another strong campaign this season.
