The Oglethorpe women's golf team fired its best round of the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational on Tuesday in Miramar Beach, Florida, posting a 26-over-par 314 to finish the 54-hole tournament at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort's Baytowne Golf Club at 90-over 954. That tied them for fifth place with Methodist and put them 34 strokes back of champions Rhodes.
Senior Hailey Willman continued her excellent tournament, posting a 7-over 79 on the day to finish tied for 10th at 16-over 232. That put her just nine strokes back of Tabitha Diehl of Rhodes, the tournament's individual champion. Sophomore Alivia Mattiace had the best round of the day by a Petrel, firing a 3-over 75 to move 21 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 38th at 26-over 242. She was joined at 242 by sophomore Angel Sanchez, who carded a 4-over 76 on Tuesday.
Junior Maria Luisa Ferreyros recorded a 13-over 85 on the day and finished tied for 49th while fellow junior Mara Tiger posted a 12-over 84 and came in tied for 56th. Sophomore Emma Meadows golfed as an individual over the course of the week and posted her best score of the tournament on Tuesday, coming in at 14-over 86. She finished tied for 89th.
Rhodes finished the tournament at 56-over 920 and won by a full 18 strokes over second-place Carnegie Mellon. Washington (Missouri) came in 19 strokes back in third, while Berry finished fourth at 31 strokes back. Illinois Wesleyan, Huntingdon, Birmingham-Southern, Sewanee and Christopher Newport rounded out the top 10.
The Petrels will be back in action for their final tournament of the fall when they head north to Rome for the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational Oct. 22 and 23.
Second Round Recap
The Oglethorpe women's golf team continued their solid play at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational in Miramar Beach, Florida, on Monday, as they posted a 30-over-par 318 on the day to maintain eighth-place position in the 54-hole tournament at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort's Baytowne Golf Club. They currently sit 23 strokes back of first-place Rhodes through 36 holes.
The Stormy Petrels were led on the day by senior Hailey Willman, who posted a 1-over 73 on the day to move into a tie for eighth at 9-over 153, just five strokes back of individual leader Karley Hammond of Berry. Junior Maria Luisa Ferreyros posted a 7-over 79 on the day to enter Tuesday's final round tied for 28th at 16-over 160. Junior Mara Tiger joined those two in finishing the day in the top half of the field, as she posted a 9-over 81 on the day and came in tied for 40th at 19-over 163.
Rhodes leads after 36 holes with a score of 41-over 617. Carnegie Mellon is in second place at 12 strokes back of that, while Berry's in third at 13 back, Birmingham-Southern's in fourth at 16 back, and Methodist is in fifth at 19 back. Washington (Missouri), Illinois Wesleyan, Wittenberg and Huntingdon joined the Petrels in rounding out the top 10.
The Petrels will be back in action on Tuesday morning, as they'll tee off their final round of the tournament at 8:30 a.m. Eastern from the first hole at Baytowne.

The Oglethorpe women's golf team got their stay at the Golfweek Division III Invitational off to a positive start Sunday in Miramar Beach, Florida, at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. They finished the day in a tie for eighth after firing a 34-over-par 322 on the Baytowne Golf Club course, putting themselves 11 strokes back of first-place Berry for the lead.
The Stormy Petrels were led on the day by sophomore Angel Sanchez, who finished the first 18 holes tied for 20th after shooting a 7-over-par 79, carding three birdies on the day. That put her seven back of Mary Hardin-Baylor's Olivia Robinson for the individual lead.
All five of the Petrels' main participants finished in the top half of the field for the day. Senior Hailey Willman finished tied for 25th after posting an 8-over 80 on the day. Junior Maria Luisa Ferreyros came in tied for 32nd at 9-over 81, while junior Mara Tiger and sophomore Alivia Mattiace both finished the day tied for 42nd after rounds of 10-over 82.
Berry finished the day with a 2-stroke lead over Methodist, who came in at 313. Illinois Wesleyan finished the day in third, Rhodes in fourth, and Birmingham-Southern in fifth. Huntingon, Carnegie Mellon, Washington (Missouri) and Christopher Newport joined Oglethorpe in rounding out the top 10.
The Petrels will hit the Baytowne course bright and early Monday morning, teeing off at 8:45 a.m. Eastern. They'll then conclude the 54-hole tournament on Tuesday.
