The Oglethorpe women's soccer team had a rough second half Saturday in Sewanee, Tennessee, as they gave up three goals to the homestanding Sewanee Tigers and fell 4-0. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 8-3 on the season overall and 0-2 in SAA play.
The teams played a fairly even first half, as Sewanee only outshot Oglethorpe 8-6 and Petrel junior goalkeeper Lindsey Bolas came up with five saves. However, the Tigers scored in the 40th minute to take a 1-0 edge into the halftime break.
The Petrels and Sewanee were still pretty much even on the shot count in the second half, with the home side outshooting the Petrels 6-5. However, the Tigers tallied goals on three of their six shots, scoring in the 51st, 78th and 87th minutes.
Sewanee outshot Oglethorpe 14-11 for the game, including a 10-2 mark in shots on goal. The Petrels took eight corner kicks to Sewanee's two.
Oglethorpe will be back in action from the Oglethorpe Track and Field next Friday and Sunday. They'll host Birmingham-Southern Friday at 4:30 p.m. before returning to action Sunday at 1 p.m. against Millsaps.
