The Oglethorpe women's soccer team fell to a pair of first-half goals in Conway, Arkansas, Sunday. The homestanding Hendrix Warriors scored just after kickoff and then again within five minutes of halftime to take a 2-0 lead that they would not relinquish. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 9-6 overall and 1-5 in SAA play.
Hendrix got on the board right away on Sunday, scoring in the second minute and immediately putting the Petrels behind. They added another in the 42nd minute to double their advantage and outshot Oglethorpe 10-5 over the course of the opening half of play. The Petrels were able to put three shots on target midway through the half, but Hendrix goalkeeper Anna Claire Lewis proved equal to the task. Oglethorpe junior goalkeeper Lindsey Bolas made a pair of saves in the first half, as well.
The Warriors continued their assault on the Oglethorpe goal in the second half, outshooting the visitors 13-3. The Petrels put two of their three shots on target, but again couldn't beat Lewis. Bolas kept Hendrix off the scoreboard in the second half, too, making three saves, but the Petrels couldn't cut into the 2-0 deficit.
Hendrix outshot Oglethorpe 23-8 for the game overall and 9-5 in shots on goal. They also took six corner kicks to the Petrels' one.
The Petrels return home on Saturday for their final regular-season game, against Berry, at 4:30 p.m. on the Oglethorpe Track and Field. Saturday will serve as Senior Day, as well, with midfielder Jalisa Kassam, forward Kayla Trice and forward Medina Besic receiving honors prior to the game.
