Downing Howell Tennis Courts
The Downing Howell Tennis Courts are home to the Oglethorpe University men’s and women’s tennis teams. The six-court tennis complex was dedicated on December 11, 2010, in a naming ceremony held on the courts in recognition of the endowment gifts. The complex was named in remembrance of the grandson of late G. Arthur Howell Jr, who was a generous contributor to the Oglethorpe tennis teams. Howell was an Oglethorpe University Trustee Emeritus, having served on the Board of Trustees from 1946 to 2001.
The courts have served as host for the 1994 and 2004 SCAC Tennis Championships. Additionally, the facility frequently plays host to matches as part of the ITA South Regional Championships when that event is hosted by Emory University.
The capacity of the Downing Howell Tennis Courts is 500 people usually filled with students, parents, professors, and more. The tennis courts are allowing general admission to all games. Come out and support your Stormy Petrels!
