BRASELTON, Ga.— The Oglethorpe men's golf team led the Southern Athletic Association Men's Golf Championship wire to wire to finish in first place by 21 shots. Sam Karman, Beck Lewis, and Tripp Murphy all finished T2 as individuals at 4 over par for the three days. Karman carded rounds of 75-76-72, Lewis finished with 74-73-76, and Murphy shot 75-75-73.

Seniors Connor Murphy and Isley McClure's 73-80-72 and 73-72-80, respectively, earned them T5 as individuals at 6 over par. Michael O'Sullivan finished close behind at T12. O'Sullivan shot 74-78-77 for the 54 holes.

The Stormy Petrels had the most birdies for the tournament with a total of 59. Lewis led the individuals in birdies with 13. Karman and T. Murphy were tied for second with 11. Oglethorpe also led the field in par three and par four scoring, and T. Murphy led the field in par four scoring as an individual.

At the end of the tournament, the SAA recognized individuals in the conference that had earned an award. McClure earned a spot on the SAA Sportsmanship Team. Head Golf Coach Jim Owen was named the Men's 2022 Coach of the Year. O'Sullivan and T. Murphy were named on the All-SAA second team. Karman, Lewis, McClure and C. Murphy were named on the All-SAA first team.

This tournament concluded the regular season for the Stormy Petrels and earned them a bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf National Championship. This will be a 72-hole event at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-hills, Florida, May 10-13.
