MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- A clean sweep through the doubles followed by singles wins by
Daniel Cohen,
Kirkman Kiker and
Cameron Burkes, and Oglethorpe men's tennis advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Athletic Association tournament with a 6-0 win over Berry Friday morning. The win put the Stormy Petrels back on the winning track after their eight-match winning streak was broken in the regular-season finale. They have now won nine of their last 10 matches.
The day started with three one-sided doubles wins.
Ameya Dani and Cohen paired for an 8-2 win;
Vincent Claussen and Kiker paired for an 8-4 win; and Burkes and
Zoe Raymond paired for an 8-2 win. Cohen, Kiker and Burkes followed with their 12th, seventh and 10th singles wins, respectively. The other three singles matches were left unfinished.
Oglethorpe, which defeated Berry 7-2 in the regular season, moved to the semifinals where the Petrels will face Centre, a 5-0 winner over Millsaps in their quarterfinal. The match is set for Saturday morning at 11 a.m. eastern time, and the winner will advance to the championship on Sunday.
