Lewis medals, No. 7 Petrels win West Pines

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga.—The only team to shoot under par at a whopping 7 under, the No. 7 Oglethorpe men's golf team ran away with the West Pines Collegiate trophy Tuesday at West Pines Golf Course. Junior Beck Lewis won medalist honors by four strokes with a two-day 9 under par effort.

The trophy marked Oglethorpe's second win in three events this season and fourth win in the last five non-national championship events dating back to last season. The Stormy Petrels' 7 under par team score bettered the rest of the field by 23 strokes.

Lewis and Sam Karman garnered all-tournament team distinction with the two top scores. Lewis shot 67-66 while Karman shot 67-70. Lewis peaked at 6 under par through 15 holes during Tuesday's round thanks to going bogey-free with four birdies and an eagle through 15 holes. Karman posted a consistent round of 35 on both the front and the back nine with three birdies on each.

Only five other individuals were able to shoot par or better across the 36-hole event.

Michael O'Sullivan shot 73-71 for T9 and Ryan Dunn moved up 13 spots on Tuesday to finish T20 with a 75-72. Colin Alexander, representing Oglethorpe's B team, displayed consistency with a 73-73 to finish T13, and Willem Jaron finished T32 after firing a 76-75.

The field featured a few other teams inside the top-25. No. 23 Babson took runner-up with a two-day 584 (292-292). Fellow Southern Athletic Association member Centre also was in the mix finishing 10th with a score of 605 (298-307).
