Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men’s tennis wins third straight

ATLANTA—A clean sweep of doubles and wins from Bailey Raymond, Jefferson Page and Noah George produced a 6-3 victory for the Oglethorpe men's tennis team over visiting Covenant Thursday on a sunny afternoon at Downing Howell Tennis Courts.

The win marked Oglethorpe's third straight and improved the Stormy Petrels to 6-3 on the year.

Teams opened with a tightly contested round of doubles, with Oglethorpe taking all three. The match on court two was the closest of the day and saw Figge Pernfors and Raymond come from behind to win 8-6.

Covenant turned in the first singles decision to make it 3-1, but Oglethorpe quickly answered right back with George and Page winning their matches 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-3, respectively. Page's victory, his third of the season, was the clinching point as the Petrels went ahead 5-1.

Raymond won his match 0-6, 7-5, 6-4, responding from a hard loss in the opening set to pick up the sixth point. It would wrap up Oglethorpe's scoring for the day, although Daniel Cohen at No. 1 singles had a hard-fought match that saw him split the first two sets then drop the super tiebreaker in the third.

Match Notes

  • George improved to 6-1 on the year while Raymond improved to 5-1.
  • Zack Raymond and Tony Molinet are next in Oglethorpe's singles win column with four wins apiece.
  • Cohen and Sam Wasko won at No. 1 doubles, marking their team leading seventh doubles win on the year. They improved to 7-1 as a pair.
