ATLANTA – The Golf Coaches Association of America has released the finalists for the Dave Williams Award, which included Oglethorpe's Jim Owen. The Dave Williams award is presented by Golf Pride Grips and honors the national coach of the year in each level of the NCAA, the NAIA, and NJCAA.
Owen previously won this award in 2012 and 2014, and this is his fourth time as a finalist. His most recent nomination was in 2016.
The GCAA's release highlighted Oglethorpe's five tournament wins this season, and Owen's leadership in capturing three out of the last four Southern Athletic Association titles. Owen is an eight-time SAA coach of the year, including this season, and produced this year's SAA newcomers of the year, co-players of the year, and five all-conference honorees. This year's team ranked No. 3 nationally for the majority of the season.
Owen and the Petrels are currently competing in the NCAA Division III Championships. Final results and other GCAA accolades will be unveiled this Friday, May 17.
