PENFIELD, N.Y.—Ryan Dunn and the No. 6 Oglethorpe men's golf team are both in the top 20 after the first round of the NCAA Championships. Oglethorpe's first 18 holes of the national event took place at Midvale Country Club on Tuesday.
At 14 over par, Oglethorpe is only 12 strokes back of the lead and five strokes out of the top five. The first two days of the event feature a split, with half of the teams at Midvale and the other half at Cobblestone Country Club. Wednesday will see the teams rotate, Oglethorpe heading over to Cobblestone.
Dunn carded two birdies and one eagle on the way to a 1 over par 73. He sits 17th overall. Sam Karman (75) and Jackson Hiller (76) followed next in 54th and 76th, respectively.
Round two of the NCAA Championships is set for Wednesday, and the Stormy Petrels will play 18 holes at Cobblestone Country Club in Victor, New York. Due to the expected inclement weather, the schedule has been updated and the day will begin with a shotgun start at 8:05 a.m. The field will be cut to the top 18 teams and six individuals not on one of those teams after Wednesday's round.
