Tennis completes spring break trip in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla.-- The Oglethorpe University men's and women's tennis teams competed in Orlando, Florida, this week during spring break. The men brought home a sweep versus Olivet Nazarene University, and the women completed two competitive matches versus University of Northwestern and Olivet Nazarene University, falling in both.

Men's Results

  • No. 2 doubles Figge Pernfors and Kellen Simmons secured a dominant 6-3 win.
  • Callum Searle and Tyler Hymel secured the second point for the Petrels, winning 6-2 over the Tigers.
  • After being down one set, Simmons made a two set comeback to secure the win for his singles match.
  • Bailey Raymond and Zack Raymond both took home sweeps in their singles matches and added two points for the Petrels.
  • Noah George took his first set 6-0 and continued the momentum to 6-1 in the second set to secure the win.
  • Figge Pernfors dominated 6-1, 6-1 to bring the final point for Oglethorpe.
  • This is the second overall win in a row for the Petrels.

Women's Results

  • On Monday, Grace Elsevier played a close match but came up short after finishing 6-3, 6-3.
  • No.1 doubles group Taylor Glover and Geianah Thomas fought hard but could not close a 6-4 match.
  • On Tuesday, Luisa Gorgoll took home a big victory sweeping both sets in singles.
  • Thomas went to a tiebreak after dropping her first set.
  • The team also was slated to play in a scrimmage against Nichols College, but the match was cancelled.

The women and men will return home on Thursday, March 19, to take on Covenant College at 4 p.m.
