Men's tennis tops Millsaps 6-1, women fall 5-2

ATLANTA- The Oglethorpe men's and women's tennis teams opened their slate of Southern Athletic Association matches for the 2026 season against Rhodes and Millsaps this weekend at home. The men split the weekend, falling to Rhodes 4-3 before defeating Millsaps 6-1. The Oglethorpe women fell in both, 7-0 to Rhodes and 5-2 to Millsaps.

Men's Results

  • On Saturday versus Rhodes, Kellen Simmons and Figge Pernfors picked up the only Petrel doubles victory of the day, winning 6-3.
  • Pernfors was the first to complete his singles match and did so with a 6-2, 6-3 victory to make the overall match score 1-1, but the Lynx would take the next three points to claim the team victory.
  • Noah George and Zack Raymond rounded out the day with the last two matches to finish, both earning victories in three sets. George outlasted his opponent 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (3) at No. 5 singles shortly before Raymond won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
  • Sunday, the Petrels recovered entirely and dominated the Majors.
  • Simmons and Pernfors (6-2) at No. 2 doubles and Tyler Hymel and Nicolas Zapata (6-1) at No. 3 doubles helped Oglethorpe secure the doubles point.
  • Simmons opened the singles matches with a bold 6-2, 6-1 victory.
  • Three matches then finished within moments of one another, the last of which was Marton Szabo providing the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
  • Other singles winners were Raymond Pernfors and George. Raymond won handily in straight sets while Pernfors and George both battled through tiebreaks in the opening set to get their wins.

Women's Results

  • After falling to Rhodes 7-0 on Saturday, Oglethorpe regrouped Sunday to battle Millsaps to a 5-2 defeat.
  • Luisa Gorgoll provided the big win for the Petrels, winning 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5.

Up Next

The Petrels will travel to Texas to continue their stretch of SAA matches where they face the Trinity Tigers on Saturday, April 4, and the Southwestern Pirates on Sunday, April 5, before returning home on April 11.
