DICKSON, Tenn.—Led by a 1 under par round from freshman Ben Muecke and an even par round from junior Ryan Callaham, the No. 12 Oglethorpe men's golf B team put up an exhibition win to start the 2026-27 campaign Sunday afternoon at Greystone Golf Course. The Stormy Petrels, who led by only two strokes nearing the end of round two, pulled ahead to win the 36-hole event by 10 strokes.
Muecke and Callaham finished second and third, respectively, with Diego Passos finishing right on their heels in fourth. Muecke fired 72-71, Callaham 70-74, and Passos 74-72 for a Petrel trio in the top four. Freshman Robert Wrobley (71-76) and junior Corbin Scott (74-74) rounded out a solid effort of five Petrels in the top nine in the first scored event of the fall.
Muecke and Passos had a couple of big highlights on the scorecard. Muecke holed out from approximately 150 yards on the par 4 15th, and Passos put a circle around a 3 on the par 5 ninth. They represented two of the three eagles posted for the tournament. Muecke also led the field in par 4 scoring at 3 under par.
The event served as the preview for the Southern Athletic Association Championships next April. No. 2 Huntingdon and No. 7 Sewanee also both had B teams in the field, taking second and third, respectively.
Up next, Oglethorpe officially opens the 2026-27 regular season with a trip to Greensboro, North Carolina, for the Gate City at Forest Oaks Country Club event on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 14-15. It will be the first of six more events on the calendar during the fall leg of the 2026-27 campaign.
