Will Long

Will Long joined Oglethorpe's athletic department as assistant men’s basketball coach prior to the 2021-22 season. Long came to Oglethorpe with over a decade of coaching experience at high school and collegiate levels.

In his first season with the Stormy Petrels, Long helped lead Oglethorpe to a 19-win season and into the Southern Athletic Associaion tournament championship game. The team was one point away from winning its first SAA title and advancing to the NCAA tournament. After that first season, Long stepped into a role with the women's team as well and has served both staffs in different capacities since 2023-24.

Prior to Oglethorpe

Most recently, Long served as assistant athletic director and head varsity boys basketball coach at Brandon High School from 2018 to 2021. From 2017 to 2018, Long was the head varsity boys’ basketball coach and a P.E. teacher at LaGrange Academy.

Prior to LaGrange Academy, Long spent one season as assistant men’s basketball coach at Emmanuel College and one season as Reinhardt University’s assistant men’s basketball coach. From 2010 to 2015, Long was the assistant athletic director and head varsity boys’ basketball coach at the Howard School in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Education | Personal

Long played collegiate basketball at Reinhardt University from 2005 to 2009 while earning his undergraduate degree in sports information. In May 2020, Long earned his MBA in sports management from Shorter University.

Long was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia, and loves all Atlanta sports teams and playing golf with his friends. He met his wife while at Reinhardt and they were married in May 2018. The couple has one son.
