Box Score The Oglethorpe University women's basketball team lost to
Maryville College on Pinholster Court on Monday night, 90-79. Cold
shooting (38%) felled the Petrels on this evening and, despite
holding a two point advantage at halftime, Oglethorpe could not
slow down the Scots in the second half.
Typically deadly from the outside, Oglethorpe only connected on
9 of 36 (25%) three-point attempts on a night when Maryville fed
their post players the basketball and managed to shoot 46% from the
field and 43% from behind the three point line. The Petrels managed
to do a great job on the offensive boards (11 in the game) but
their cold shooting kept the team from rallying for the win.
Oglethorpe was paced by the solid play of freshman Mareva Bone who
recorded a team-high 17 points, 6 rebounds and two assists
against zero turnovers. Fellow freshman Kaci Palmore posted her
second consecutive double-double by notching 12 points and grabbing
13 rebounds.
Senior Taymah Jones posted 14 points and four rebounds and freshman
Riley Cerone rounded out the Petrels in double figures with 11
points on the night.
With the loss Oglethorpe is now 1-1 on the season and will get set
to travel to Florence, Kentucky for a Thanksgiving Tournament with
games slated against Manchester and Thomas More college for
Saturday and Sunday.
