Box Score The Oglethorpe University women's basketball team lost to
LaGrange College on Pinholster Court on Thursday night, 81-72. The
Petrels held a 28-12 lead with 5:53 remaining in the first half but
a furious Panther rally led LaGrange to the non-conference win.
The night looked as though it was going well for Oglethorpe
before the dramatic run by LaGrange. Despite the Panther rally, the
Petrels still held an eleven point 40-29 lead at the break.
LaGrange, however, began the second stanza on a 25-6 run for a
54-46 lead that seized control of the game.
Freshman Sarah Jones set a school record for three-pointers made
in a game with 9 on the evening in the tough loss. She
connected on 5 of 7 from beyond the arc in the first half and then
nailed 4 of 6 in the second half for an incredible 9 of 13 shooting
performance from downtown. For the night, she led all Oglethorpe
scorers with 29 points to go along with 4 rebounds and five
assists.
Freshman Sarah Giles also had an outstanding game for
Oglethorpe, shooting 9 of 14 from the field for 18 points.
Additionally, she led all players with 13 rebounds on
the night to go along with 5 blocked shots.
Oglethorpe struggled shooting only 37% from the field for the
game which included only a 32% success rate in the decisive
second half.
With the result, Oglethorpe is now 4-3 on the season and will
get set to host East Texas Baptist on Pinholster Court this Sunday
at 3:00 p.m.
