Box Score The Oglethorpe University women's basketball team lost to
Carthage College in the finals of the Stormy Petrel Holiday Classic
on Tuesday night, 88-66. The Petrels were done in by the Lady Red
opening the game on a 19-0 run en route to the 22 point victory on
Pinholster Court.
After the 19 point burst to start the game, Oglethorpe settled
in nicely against the nation's number 24 ranked team and played the
Lady Red virtually even for the remainder of the contest. The
Petrels could not, however, overcome the lethal first five minutes
of the game that put Oglethorpe in a hole they could not dig out
of.
Freshman Sarah Jones led four Petrels in double figures on the
afternoon with 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field.
Sophomore Rena Crossland posted 12 points and 4 rebounds while
junior Chelsea MacDonald connected on 3 of 6 three-point attempts
on her way to 11 points. Freshman Sarah Giles rounded out the
Petrels in double-figures with 10 points and 5 rebounds in the
loss.
With the result, Oglethorpe is 6-4 on the season and will get
set for conference play beginning this Friday at 6:00 p.m. on
Pinholster Court when they square off with Birmingham-Southern.
