Box Score The Oglethorpe women's basketball team came back from a
seven-point deficit with 8:20 remaining in the game to defeat
Rhodes 70-69 on Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House.
The Lady Petrels were down 34-28 at halftime after an
up-and-down first half which Rhodes dominated the final 10 miuntes
of. The margin stayed pretty much the same throughout the first
part of the second half. But after Rhodes' biggest lead was
attained at 8:20, Oglethorpe began a comeback. They tied the game
with 3:55 left on a jumper by Katie Weeks.
Rhodes went back ahead again, but Oglethorpe took the lead for
good with two Sarah Jones free throws with 1:46 left. Then Kelley
Reeves delivered the dagger: a three-pointer with 1:06 left that
game Oglethorpe a 69-65 lead. Rhodes cut that lead to one and had
the final possession, but couldn't hit the big shot when they
needed it.
Kelley Reeves enjoyed a career day for Oglethorpe, setting
career highs in points, field goals made and three-pointers made
with 21, 6 and 5, respectively. She was also 4-4 from the line and
had three assists. Sarah Giles also had an excellent game,
scoring 12 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
The victory improves Oglethorpe to 7-5 on the year, 2-1 in SCAC
play. The Lady Petrels will be on the road next weekend. They will
be at Centre on Friday night.
