Box Score The Oglethorpe University women's basketball team beat the
Millsaps College Majors in Jackson, Mississippi on Sunday
afternoon, 70-64. The Petrels got off to a hot start by shooting
64% in the first half and built a 14 point second half lead before
settling on the final margin.
Oglethorpe did the work on the defensive side of the ball to
keep the Majors (0-20) winless on the season. The Petrels held
Millsaps to 29% shooting (20-68) and forced 25 turnovers which they
converted into 28 points.
Sophomore Katie Weeks had a career afternoon for Oglethorpe,
hitting on 12 of 18 shot attempts on her way to posting a game-high
25 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Sarah Giles continued to
impress in the paint, notching another double-double with 10 points
and 11 rebounds while the recently activated Mareva Bone rounded
out the Petrels in double figures with 10 in the win.
The Petrels are now 9-11 on the season and, at 4-7 in the SCAC,
hold a two game lead on Sewanee for the final berth in next month's
SCAC Championship also held in Jackson. Oglethorpe is back in
action this Friday night when they face Birmingham-Southern at 7:00
p.m Eastern.
