Box Score The Oglethorpe University women's basketball team lost to Centre
College in Danville, Kentucky on Friday night, 85-60. The Colonels
managed to force 36 Stormy Petrel turnovers en route to the
victory.
The Petrels took an early 7-6 lead over the Colonels at the
17:37 mark following two free throws by Katie Weeks but Centre put
together a 25-6 run over the next 9 minutes of the game to take a
decisive 31-12 lead in the contest. Centre forced Oglethorpe to
turn the ball over 24 times in the first half and held a convincing
45-26 advantage at halftime.
Oglethorpe was lead by the play of freshman Riley Cerone who
posted 19 points and connected on 4 of 8 shots from downtown to
lead the Petrels in scoring in the tough road SCAC tilt. Fellow
freshman Sarah Giles scored 8 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and
blocked 3 shots while Katie Weeks recorded 12 points and 6 rebounds
on the evening.
With the result Oglethorpe is now 7-6 on the season and 2-2 in
SCAC play. The Petrels face another difficult task on Sunday when
they face DePauw University at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday in Greencastle,
Indiana.
