Overtime Again: Eagles Best Petrels

Box Score

For the third straight meeting and fourth time in the last five contests, the Oglethorpe-Emory men's basketball game went to overtime on Wednesday night with Emory prevailing in Decatur, 92-84.

For Oglethorpe the outcome was eerily similar to the overtime loss to Emory last November where the Petrels led throughout only to succumb in the waning seconds. This time the Petrels built a 16 point first half lead, led by 12 at the break and still maintained a 9 point edge with 2:39 remaining in regulation before allowing the Eagles to claw back for the win.

The Petrels managed to keep the Eagles at arm's length throughout the majority of the second half until a 6 point possession cut a 12 point Oglethorpe lead in half and opened the door for the Emory comeback. After Emory tied the game Oglethorpe still had a chance to win in regulation but, ultimately, could not get a shot off.

The Eagles took their first lead of the game on their first possession in overtime and went on to score 8 of the first 11 points in the extra session to pull ahead for good.

Todd Ward spearheaded the Oglethope attack with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Joe Kennedy tallied 16 and Alec Pitts 13 points.

The Petrels are back in action this Tuesday night at Piedmont at 7:00 p.m.
