Box Score The men's basketball team lost to Berry College in Rome, Ga. on Wednesday night, 71-62. Despite taking 17 more shots than the Vikings on the evening, the Petrels could not overcome poor shooting (23 of 68, 34%) to fall to 3-3 on the season.
Oglethorpe particularly struggled to find the mark in a first half where they could only convert 10 of 34 attempts (29.4%) to ultimately trail Berry 36-26 at the intermission. The shooting woes continued in the second half and the Petrels could not muster a run to knock off the home standing Vikings.
The Petrels forced the Vikings into 16 turnovers while giving it up only 9 times but Berry sank 6 of 8 three-pointers in the first half and shot 51% for the game (26 of 51) to earn the win.
Seniors Todd Ward and Joe Kennedy turned in the leading performances for the Petrels with Kennedy netting a team-high 15 points to go with 6 rebounds while Ward posted another doule-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Oglethorpe is back in action this Saturday when they begin conference play against Sewanee on Pinholster Court at 6:00 p.m.
