Women Race Past Tigers

The women's basketball team notched their second consecutive victory on Saturday night on by topping Sewanee on Pinholster Court, 79-54. The Petrels saw a 16 point first half lead cut to 4 at the break but reponded by routing the Tigers in the seond half.

The Petrels raced out to a 24-8 advantage before Sewanee hit some shots and forced a few turnovers to claw back within three. Oglethorpe settled for a 36-32 halftime lead but blew the doors open in a second half that they owned a double-digit lead throughout.

Oglethorpe dominated the glass by a margin of 56-36 and forced 30 Sewanee turnovers on their way to the easy victory. Showing great ball distribution, the Petrels also assisted on 22 of their 33 made baskets on the night.

Sophomore forward Sarah Giles once again led the way for the Petrels with a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds. Giles made 12 of her 16 shot attempts and also recorded 5 assists and 2 steals in the win. Katie Weeks also posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 3 steals. Senior Chelsea MacDonald added 12 points and junior Kelley Reeves had 11 to round out the Petrels in double figures.

With the win Oglethorpe is now 2-4 on the season and will have nearly two weeks off for exams before lacing them back up again against Berry College on Pinholster Court at 6:00 p.m. on December 17.
