Box Score On a snowy night in Atlanta, Centre outlasted Oglethorpe 80-67
in SCAC play. The loss dropped Oglethorpe to 9-14 overall and 4-10
in conference play.
After Centre had built a 15-point lead at 56-41 with 12:55 left,
the Lady Petrels fought valiantly to get back into the game. They
cut the lead to 69-65 with 3:46 to play. But they would get no
closer and Centre would close the game on an 11-2 run to finish the
Lady Petrels off.
Down in the first half, Oglethorpe made three straight
three-pointers to give themselves a five-point lead with 7:37
left in the first half. It would be their biggest lead of the game.
However, Centre was able to mount a 16-5 run to end the half and go
into the locker room with a 40-34 lead.
Oglethorpe forward Sarah Giles had the best game of her young
career on Friday night. She finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds,
and a school-record 12 blocks, becoming the first player to record
a triple-double in Oglethorpe women's basketball history. Despite
this truly dominating performance, the Lady Petrels were not able
to get over the hump against Centre, though.
The Lady Petrels will next be in action on Sunday at noon, when
they will take on DePauw at Dorough Field House.
