The women's basketball team lost to Centre College on Pinholster Court on Sunday afternoon, 59-46. Both squads made 20 field goals in the contest and shot 30% but the Colonels made 14 free throws compared to only three for the Petrels in the tough loss.
The Petrels hung tough against a veteran Colonel squad and only tailed by five, 29-24, at intermission. Oglethorpe was still in striking range late in the contest but could not get over the hump as Centre closed out the win.
The Colonels controlled the boards with a 52-43 advantage and made 14 of their 15 free throw attempts to earn the road victory. Centre was only whistled for 9 fouls throughout the game and Oglethorpe made 3 of their scant 4 attempts at the charity stripe.
Katie Weeks was the only Petrel in double-figures with 12 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Senior Chelsea MacDonald netted 9 points and grabbed 6 boards while sophomore Sarah Giles had a team high 12 rebounds and 6 blocked shots.
The Petrels are now 3-10 (2-3) on the season and will face Southwestern at 6:00 p.m. this Friday in the Dorough Field House.
