The men's basketball team topped Sewanee in Monteagle, Tenn. on Saturday night, 74-67. The Petrels held a two point halftime lead (24-22) but trailed by two (42-40) with 10:30 to play before a 13-0 spurt guided Oglethorpe to victory.

The first half was nip-and-tuck as the largest lead, held briefly, was 6 points by Sewanee with a 14-8 advantage early on. The Petrels would close the deficit, however, and claim a 24-22 lead at the break.

The second stanza was similarly close until the Tigers scored 7 of 11 points to forge a 42-40 lead with 11:11 to play. That's when the Petrels began their 13-0 spurt that was sparked by forcing 6 Tiger turnovers over their next 8 possessions to eventually open up a 58-45 lead with 3:30 remaining. The Petrels extended the lead to 15 on a pair of Alex Richey free throws before three Sewanee three-pointers in the final minute forced Oglethorpe to finish the game at the free throw line.

Alec Pitts led four Petrels in double figures with 18 on the night. Andrew Steioff netted 15 and both Todd Ward and Alex Richey notched 13 points to lead the Petrels in the winning effort.

With the victory Oglethorpe clinches yet another winning season at 14-11 overall. The Petrels will head to Jackson, Mississippi to face Colorado College in the first round of the SCAC Tournament on Friday at 8:00 p.m.
